How Does It Work? | Testimonials
How Does Causes Make a Real Impact in the World?

Causes is one of the top sources of charitable giving from young people on this planet. While giving a few grains of rice may seem small -- when multiplied by the millions of myYearbook users who login every month -- we are able to have a real impact on the world stage and actually do something concrete to Save the Planet.

At the end of every month, myYearbook writes a large check to the Causes described below based on the giving activity of our members. When you purchase an item through Causes, we record the purchase and translate your lunch money into real US dollars. For example, we multiply the number of grains of rice bought by our members that month to support the Hunger cause and multiply that amount by the cost of a grain of rice in US dollars and determine the total donation to be made to the listed cause based on the giving activity of our members.

We have committed tens of thousands of dollars per month to supporting the Causes of our members and hope, as our membership grows, to make this number even bigger.

Thanks to the generosity of our members, we are able to supply the following organizations with the real cash donations they need to support their mission and help make a difference in this world --- to help fight poverty, global warming, disease, and animal abuse.

The reason this can work is because myYearbook has sponsors. These sponsors want to reach teens, and young people (hopefully all people) want to help charities save the planet. The genius of Causes is in connecting these three very different groups -- Teens, Sponsors, and Charities --- and bringing them together to make a difference in the world. We currently cap our total monthly donation from myYearbook at $20,000 US dollars per month -- which makes us month 1 one of the largest sources of donations from young people -- and we intend to increase that limit as we get more sponsors to support this endeavor.

To support Causes, myYearbook has recently launched a service that awards Lunch Money to give to Causes if you engage in a variety of sponsored actions. While myYearbook will always be Free, we appreciate every member who helps support us. Placing an ad on your profile may seem like a small thing to do, but that is the way we are able to make this whole idea work.

We thank all our members for their generous spirit, and we intend to make this Causes section the top source of charitable giving from young people on this planet.

If you have any questions about how we make donations or have a suggestion for another organization to donate to please email causes@myYearbook.com.

Sincerely,

David Cook

End World Hunger - Buy Grains of Rice

With aid from our sponsors, myYearbooks donates to the World Food Programme (www.wfp.org). The World Food Programme distributes the rice in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Uganda, Nepal, Bhutan, and Myanmar.

Although a single grain of rice is not a lot, together myYearbook members can feed millions of people around the world and help end world hunger. The actual cost of rice according to the World Food Programme is $16 for 25 kilograms of rice. Forty-eight grains of rice is approximately 1 gram, and WFP distributes 400 grams of rice per person per day.

Stop Global Warming - Buy Carbon Offsets

Excess carbon dioxide in the air is causing storm systems to be more severe, polar ice caps to melt, and will cause more than 1 million animal species to die out in the next 50 years. If we do nothing, rising tides will make hundreds of millions of people homeless and change the nature of life on Earth.

To save our planet, it is important to both reduce your own carbon dioxide emissions, and to offset what you cannot reduce. By donating to CarbonFund.org with help from our sponsors we can offset carbon dioxide making the world a better -- and cooler -- place.

Protecting one acre prevents more than 100 tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere and many species from losing their homes.

It only costs $15 to protect one acre of rainforest. Donate your Lunch Money to protect the rainforest one square foot at a time.

Feed Rescued Animals - Give Dog Food

Between 6 and 8 million animals are dropped off at animal shelters every year, but only 25-35% of them will eventually be adopted. This leads animal shelters to put some animals to sleep in order to create more space and save money on food, grooming, and other pet necessities.

The North Shore Animal League is the world's largest no kill animal shelter. Since its start, NSAL has rescued more than 1 million animals and found loving homes for them. By donating to NSAL through myYearbook and our sponsors, you can provide dogs with much needed food and keep them healthy and safe until they are adopted into loving and nurturing homes.
