In the US, 23.6 million children and adults have diabetes, and 5.7 million do not realize they have it. Having diabetes can double the risk of depression, and cause stroke, heart disease, and blindness. In 2002, Diabetes was the 6th leading cause of death.
200 children around the world develop type-1 diabetes every day, and in the past 3 years rates of type-2 diabetes have doubled in the US. Children with type-1 diabetes in some underdeveloped countries like Mozambique are expected to die within a year.
